New Gloucestershire Special School gets planning approval
At its meeting on 21st November, the Gloucestershire Planning Committee gave its approval for the new 200 place special school to be built at a site off Wheatridge in Abbeydale, Gloucester.
There are growing numbers of children in Gloucestershire and across the country who need specialist provision. This purpose built school aims to deliver high quality, inclusive education for its children, many of whom are the most disadvantaged children in the region. The school seeks to be a benchmark in terms of minimising its carbon footprint in usage. Reach South runs schools across the range of education – primary, secondary and special schools and has a strong track record on school improvement.
Dean Ashton, CEO said. “We are delighted that the Planning Committee has given its approval for this school and look forward to working closely with the County Council and its partners to develop this school. This is a major step forward for children in our region. Schools in our Trust work closely with communities. It is part of our vision and values. From talking with the Council, parents and carers groups, other special schools and individuals we understand the great need for specialist provision. We also understand concerns of local residents. We are committed to working with the local community, schools, parents to address concerns and to ensure that we have the very best possible school for the children and young people who attend.”
